Bosnian Serb Soldier Acquitted of Srebrenica Genocide

The Bosnian state court acquitted former Bosnian Serb Army serviceman Aleksandar Cvetkovic of taking part in the genocide of Bosniaks from Srebrenica in July 1995.

Verdict in Cvetkovic Trial Expected July 2

Presenting his closing statement, Aleksandar Cvetkovic’s defense attorney said Cvetkovic didn’t participate in the execution of civilians from Srebrenica on the Branjevo Farm in the municipality of Zvornik in July 1995. As such, the defense believes that their client should be acquitted of charges of participating in genocide.

State Prosecution Presents Closing Statements at Aleksandar Cvetkovic Trial

Presenting its closing arguments at the Aleksandar Cvetkovic trial, the state prosecution said Cvetkovic’s Tenth Sabotage Detachment of the Bosnian Serb Army participated in attacks on Srebrenica and the execution of hundreds of Srebrenica civilians at the Branjevo farm in July 1995.

Previous Testimony by UN Military Observer to be Presented at Cvetkovic Trial

At today’s hearing of the Aleksandar Cvetkovic trial, the trial chamber approved a motion by the state prosecution to watch a video recording of testimony previously given by former UN military observer Joseph Kingori. The video recording will be presented to the Bosnian state court at the next hearing.
