Rasevic and Todovic: First Defence Witness

The first witness called by Mitar Rasevic's defence team has testified under protection measures with the exclusion of the public.
The Defence of Mitar Rasevic - who is charged together with Savo Todovic with having committed crimes in the Foca Correctional Facility - has examined the first witness, whose identity was protected. During the examination, the public was excluded from the courtroom most of the time.

During the public part of the hearing, protected witness M.R. testified about the "harmonious inter-ethnic relations" in Foca before 1992.

"Foca could serve as an example of good inter-ethnic relations. We spent time together, we celebrated and mourned together," said M.R., adding that "the emergence of national parties" undermined the idyllic life in the municipality. This led to the first conflict, which happened on April 8, 1992.

The state prosecution considers Rasevic and Todovic responsible for the maltreatment and murder of civilians in the Foca Correctional Facility from 1992 to 1994. The indictment alleges that Rasevic was commander of guards in the facility, while Todovic was its deputy manager.

In the course of the examination of this witness, Rasevic's Defence attorney Slavisa Prodanovic presented about 50 pieces of material evidence, some of which was included in the prosecution's evidence.
