Kovacevic Pleads not Guilty

Arnes Grbesic BIRN BiH Doboj
Jovisa Kovacevic appears before the District Court in Doboj and pleads not guilty of crimes against prisoners of war in the Modrica area.
Kovacevic is charged with having abused a member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH, who was captured on a battlefield near Gradacac, in the basement of a house in the vicinity of Modrica.

The indictment alleges that, in the period from late April to mid-May 1994 Kovacevic examined the prisoner every day for an hour or two, cursing him and hitting him with his hands, legs, as well as with handles and sticks.

The indictment, which was filed on the basis of the Criminal Code of Republika Srpska, does not specify in what capacity Kovacevic examined the prisoner of war.

The start date for the trial will be set at a later stage.
