Frimel's Trial Postponed

Dzana Brkanic BIRN BiH Sarajevo

The Mario Frimel trial was postponed to the absence of defense attorney Midhat Koco. Frimel has been charged with war crimes in Sarajevo.

Jasenko Ruzic, the chair of the trial chamber at the cantonal court of Sarajevo, said Koco had sent a written note saying he wouldn’t be able to attend the hearing due to the death of a close relative.

The cantonal prosecution of Sarajevo has charged Frimel, the former commander of the Ivan Krndelj Squad of the Bosnian Army, with the unlawful arrest of Serbs in the Hrasno neighbourhood of Sarajevo. He allegedly participated in their physical and mental abuse.

At the beginning of October 1992, members of the Ivan Krndelj Squad allegedly brought Serb civilians to a shopping center, where they abused them.

The trial will continue on December 14.
