Local Justice – Ristic and Devic: Trial Postponed

The trial of Lazar Ristic and Predrag Devic before the Cantonal Court in Bihac has been postponed until early March 2011 because one of the Defence attorneys is ill.

Ristic and Devic are charged with having stopped a cart in which 15 Bosniak civilians from Vrse and Lukavice villages were riding on their way back home after having performed their civil duty on October 10, 1995. They allegedly stopped the cart on the road to Sanski Most “as per a previous agreement and armed with automatic guns”.

According to the charges, Ristic ordered the soldiers and civilians who were riding on the cart to get off. Ristic, Petar Arsenic and Devic then allegedly took the civilians, “using force and threatening them with weapons”, and later killed them in the vicinity of the Marjanovici-Domazeti hamlet.

Arsenic concluded a guilt admission agreement with the Una-Sana Cantonal Prosecution. He was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment.

The trial is due to continue on March 8.
